As the Head of Data, you would be responsible for managing the Data Team, overseeing data operations, implementing data strategies and policies, and ensuring the accuracy and security of our data assets. You would play a critical role in driving company-wide initiatives to extract maximum value from our data, using a blend of strategic thinking, technical expertise, and strong leadership skills.

Reporting to: VP Technology

Location: Home-Based (UK only)

Hours: Full Time

 

Key Responsibilities:

Data Governance & Strategy:

  • Develop and implement company-wide data strategies, policies, controls and programmes.
  • Establish and own the data governance framework, ensuring data accuracy, visibility and security.
  • Drive data literacy within the organisation through training and support for all staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology trends and applications in data management.

 

Management & Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the data team (analytics, business intelligence and data engineering), fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across departments to identify and prioritise business needs and drive data initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance and act as the go-to person for the primary technology of the team.
  • Mentor other engineers, actively increasing the visibility of the team’s work.

 

Technical Expertise:

  • Design larger systems that are easy for new employees to understand and change.
  • Own and drive technical guidelines, identifying and managing risks for the team.
  • Demonstrate proficient problem-solving skills in diverse technologies.
  • Have a deep technical understanding of Business Intelligence, data warehouses and data analysis tools.
  • Utilise Azure data services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics.

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in a senior data management role, preferably in the health tech industry.
  • Strong leadership skills, with line management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, compliance, privacy, data protection and security best practices.
  • Experience developing and implementing data strategy, policies and plans.
  • In-depth knowledge of Azure data services and data visualisation tools.
  • Proficient in SQL, Python, or other data-related programming languages.
  • Ability to translate complex data-related concepts into understandable business terms.

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the application of Generative AI tools/models.
  • Experience with big data tools and platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
  • A numerate/scientific degree or vocational experience as a data analyst in Healthcare.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, 27001 and 13485 standards.

  • Salary of £75,000-£90,000 per year, depending on experience.
