Senior Graphics & Rendering Architect

We’re seeking a Senior Graphics & Rendering Engineer to lead the evolution of our interactive 3D graphics engine to power our web-based design tool.

This role is a unique opportunity to push the boundaries of immersive realism in the browser while ensuring seamless performance across a diverse range of devices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and design of our graphics engine for enhanced efficiency and flexibility across a diverse range of hardware.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and UX designers, to firmly establish the feature requirements of our graphics engine.
• Communicate complex concepts to the team and other stakeholders through authoring detailed technical design and architecture documents.
• Mentor other engineers, conduct impactful code reviews, and lead efforts to enhance code quality and consistency across the code-base.
• Drive the roadmap of our graphics engine and inspire innovation within the team by committing to staying informed about the latest advancements in rendering technologies, graphics programming methods, and game engine design.
• Strengthen the authenticity of our mixed-reality experiences through skillful improvements to image-based lighting, shadowing, & physically-based rendering algorithms.
• Conduct in-depth research and development of real-time, realistic lighting & shading algorithms targeting browser delivery, utilizing frameworks such as ThreeJS, BabylonJS, custom WebGL/WebGPU and/or WASM.
• Ensure a seamless user experience by diagnosing and troubleshooting rendering anomalies and performance bottlenecks.

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or related field.
• A minimum of 8-10 years hands-on experience at a senior level in the development of render/game engines and cutting-edge 3D graphics.
• A proven track record of architecting complex systems for large-scale applications.
• Comprehensive knowledge of modern 3D game/rendering engine architectures such as entity – component systems, scene graph representations, and/or rigid-body physics engines.
• Proficiency in low-level graphics APIs such as WebGL/WebGPU, Vulkan, DX12, Metal, OpenGL.
• Demonstrated understanding of HDR, image-based lighting, physically based rendering, and other advanced realistic rendering techniques.
• Strong command of JavaScript/Typescript. Experience with libraries like ThreeJS, BabylonJS, or similar browser-based rendering stacks is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and proactive attitude.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with premium, off-the-shelf raytracer packages such as Cycles, Redshift, V-Ray, Arnold, Octane, or Omniverse.
• Experience with real time hardware ray tracing apis such as the Vulkan Raytracing API, DXR, Nvidia RTXDI/OptiX

• The USA base salary for this full-time position ranges from $190,000 to $280,000 determined by location, role, skill, and experience level.
