Position Overview:

We are seeking a Part-Time Contract Mobile Designer to lead the visual design of our educational mobile apps that assess and help children learn to read. This role involves developing playful, compelling, and interactive learning experiences that cater to young, emerging readers, from pre-K to elementary school. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in children’s mobile app design and a strong interest in educational development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and lead the visual experience of our early learning mobile app aimed at assessing and teaching reading skills to children.
• Develop a visual style and user experience that aligns to the brand identity and differentiates our products from others in the market.
• Work in collaboration with educational specialists and product team to align game content and interactions with literacy development strategies and learning objectives.
• Develop child-friendly interfaces and ensure the app experience is engaging and accessible to young learners.
• Create and deliver assets ready for implementation that are compatible with multiple screen and memory sizes.
• Collaborate with engineering to balance technical feasibility and to ensure proper implementation of designs.
• Utilize adaptive learning techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and proficiency levels.
• Provide animations and sounds to go along with the designs to create a clear, satisfying, and joyful experience.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Visual Design, Interactive or Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrable experience in mobile visual/game design, with a strong portfolio featuring design projects, especially in educational or children’s gaming.
• Strong iOS design experience – at least 7+ years in iOS UI/UX design and solid working familiarity with Apple HIG, SwiftUI, Metal and key IOS UI elements.
• 2D and 3D visual design tools experience with Unity experience a plus.
• Experience delivering production-ready mobile design assets, including image optimization, file format, sizing, and managing assets in Assets Catalogs in an XCode project.
• Immersive visual graphics or game design is a significant plus.
• Strong understanding of design principles as they relate to educational content and young learners.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
• A strong commitment to creating educational and fun experiences for children.

Contract Details:

This is a part-time, contract position. Hours and duration of the contract will be discussed with successful candidates.

Work can be conducted remotely, with occasional meetings or check-ins as required.
