Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced design leader to join our team as our Head of Product Design. You’ll directly shape our design strategy and execution, partnering closely with our Head of Product and two co-founders to bring our family storytelling mission to millions through intuitive, accessible experiences. This role is hands-on, requiring someone equally passionate about strategy and tactical execution. You’ll build our design practice while personally creating functional, delightful interfaces that drive measurable business results, including retention, engagement, and word-of-mouth growth.
The ideal candidate thrives in a lean, scrappy environment focused on fast experimentation and translates deep user research into intuitive designs that drive key business metrics. This role is designed for someone genuinely energized by the pace and resourcefulness required at early-stage startups. If your comfort zone is primarily managing large teams or extensive resources at big companies, this role likely isn’t a good fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner closely with our Head of Product and co-founders to establish the design vision, system, and roadmap that aligns with company goals and directly impacts key business metrics.
- Design experiences that achieve the delicate balance of emotional resonance and business outcomes—creating a platform that users love while delivering measurable growth.
- Lead the creation of accessible, intuitive experiences that resonate with our older adult demographic while driving retention, engagement, and word-of-mouth sharing.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of our users through direct research, creating personas and journey maps that inform product decisions and business strategy.
- Create and maintain a cohesive design system that enables rapid iteration and consistent experiences across all platforms.
- Implement data-informed design decisions by consistently measuring user engagement and connecting design choices to business KPIs.
- Lead usability testing with customers, particularly older adults, to validate assumptions and identify opportunities for both experience enhancement and business growth.
- Collaborate directly with engineering to ensure designs are feasible and ready for implementation.
- Create interfaces and flows that naturally encourage habit formation and viral sharing among family members.
- Help shape the company’s brand and visual identity, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints.
- Build and lead a high-performing design team over time, beginning with contractors and eventually hiring full-time designers.
Skills & Experience
- 6+ years of product design experience, with at least 2-3 years in design leadership roles.
- Proven track record building consumer products and platforms that balance beautiful, emotionally-resonant design that naturally encourage habit formation and guide measurable business impact (retention, engagement, growth).
- Results-oriented approach with demonstrated ability to connect design decisions directly to user success metrics.
- Experience designing accessible, intuitive interfaces for diverse users, particularly older adults.
- Technical proficiency with Figma and the ability to create high-fidelity prototypes that enable effective collaboration with engineering.
- Experience developing and maintaining scalable design systems for UX and visual design that ensure consistent experiences across platforms and channels.
- Strong user research skills, including conducting usability testing and translating insights into actionable design solutions.
- Ability to thrive in lean, fast-paced startup environments, personally executing designs and rapidly iterating with limited resources
- Bonus: Previous experience working with cross-functional teams in early-stage companies (Seed to Series B)
Location & Work Environment
We operate with a hybrid model, three days per week in-person at our Culver City office. At this early stage, we deeply value face-to-face collaboration and believe it’s crucial for rapid, creative iteration. If spending time brainstorming with teammates at our office whiteboard excites you, you’ll love it here.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive compensation range of $150k-$170k, plus meaningful equity (standard terms: 1-year cliff, 4-year vesting)
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits.
- Flexible PTO policy.
- Empowering culture with significant internal growth opportunities for top performers.
Our Philosophy
We deeply believe that diverse, equitable, and inclusive teams elevate us all and enable us to better serve our customers. We’re committed to creating a welcoming work environment for people of all genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and life experiences.
Research shows that women and systematically marginalized groups are less likely to apply unless they meet every listed qualification. If you think you could excel in this role but aren’t sure you meet every qualification, we strongly encourage you to apply anyway. If you require specific accommodations during the interview process or if you join our team, please let us know.
Hiring Process
To ensure a great fit, our hiring process will include structured interviews and a practical design exercise. This will help us directly evaluate your UX chops and strategic design thinking and allow you to experience firsthand the type of impactful work you’ll be doing here at Remento.
Who Will Thrive (And Who Won’t)
- ✅ You’ll thrive if… you’re genuinely excited to roll up your sleeves and handle tactical execution yourself; you have a strong intuition for consumer design, and you understand how to build effective interfaces that acquire and retain customers, especially older adults.
- You might struggle if… your primary experience is managing large teams or extensive design resources at heavily resourced organizations; or you prefer to delegate detailed execution and analysis to others.
