Senior Software Engineer

Lenders spend over $24B every year hiring agents for manual, repetitive servicing work. While existing AI solutions attempt to automate this, they often treat regulatory guardrails as an afterthought.

Kato takes a different approach. Regulations are our foundation. We layer an AI decision engine on top of a robust regulatory rules system, building an AI-powered servicing platform that ensures full compliance and best-in-class recoveries. Our “compliance-first” Voice AI agent is already in production with major fintech names like Bilt Rewards and Parafin.

The Role

As our second engineering hire, you will work directly with customers to build impactful products and shape our technical foundation. You will own mission-critical projects, spanning real-time voice processing, customer-facing dashboards, and infrastructure scaling.

This is a high-impact role reporting to the CTO and includes significant equity ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture: Lead implementation of real-time voice processing and scalable distributed systems.
• AI Optimization: Integrate LLMs for natural, compliance-aware conversations.
• Product Development: Build customer-facing dashboards and internal monitoring tools.
• Leadership: Establish engineering best practices and drive technical standards.
• Customer Partnership: Translate customer requirements into technical solutions.

Requirements

Must Have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2–5 years of production software engineering experience.
• Strong background in API design and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
• Excellent architectural thinking and problem-solving skills.
• An “Owner’s mindset” with a bias for action and a passion for code quality.

Nice to Have

• Experience with real-time audio processing or WebRTC.
• Proficiency in Golang, TypeScript, or React.
• Experience with LLM integration and prompt engineering.
• Fintech or financial systems background.
