Founding Engineer

We’re building infrastructure that makes it dramatically easier for consumers to use FSA/HSA dollars where they already shop (helping folks save up to 40% on healthcare expenses) – without changing checkout flows or introducing new payment methods. V1 of the product, which is live today, serves thousands of users across real merchant integrations. We’re now at an inflection point, where we are gearing up to serve millions of users, and are looking for a founding engineer to help scale the system, deepen reliability, and shape the technical foundation of the company.
The Role
This is a founding-level, backend-focused role. You’ll own core systems, work directly with the founders, and help evolve the architecture as we grow from early traction to large enterprise partners.
You don’t need prior founder or CTO experience, but you do need to have operated in early-stage environments and owned real production systems.

What You’ll Do

• Own and evolve core backend systems, APIs, and data pipelines
• Design scalable, reliable services that integrate with external partners
• Build and maintain production infrastructure on cloud services e.g. GCP, AWS
• Establish strong defaults around reliability, observability, security, and data integrity
• Make pragmatic architecture decisions that balance speed with long-term maintainability
• Partner closely with founders on product and technical direction
• Help set early engineering standards and participate in hiring as the team grows

What We’re Looking For

• 6+ years of software engineering experience (flexible)
• Experience at an early-stage startup (Seed / Series A), ideally in a senior or lead capacity
• Strong backend and systems experience (APIs, services, data stores, integrations)
• Hands-on experience operating production systems in the cloud
• Familiarity with GCP/AWS (Cloud Run / GKE, PubSub / Kinesis, Cloud SQL / Firestore / BigQuery, etc.)
• Strong system design fundamentals and comfort with ambiguity
• High ownership mindset and clear technical communication

Nice to Have

• Experience scaling systems or supporting enterprise customers
• Experience in fintech, healthcare, payments, or other regulated environments
• Experience helping define early engineering process and culture
