About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager with team leadership experience, high proficiency in Python and Django, and a deep understanding of system design concepts to join our team in a hybrid role in NYC. The ideal candidate has experience working on consumer-facing products and is passionate about building scalable, high-performance applications that enhance user experiences.
This is a unique opportunity to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and contribute to system architecture while working on products that impact millions of users.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Development: Build and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure backend services using Python and Django.
- System Architecture: Design and optimize system architecture, ensuring scalability and high availability.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
- API Design & Integration: Develop and optimize RESTful APIs to support web and mobile applications.
- Database Optimization: Design efficient database schemas and optimize queries for PostgreSQL, MySQL, or NoSQL databases.
- Performance & Scalability: Identify and resolve system bottlenecks, ensuring seamless user experiences.
- Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices, authentication mechanisms, and data protection strategies.
- DevOps & CI/CD: Work with DevOps teams to improve deployment pipelines, automation, and monitoring.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to bring new features to life.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of backend development experience with modern languages / frameworks (NodeJS, Python).
- Experience working on consumer-facing digital products (web or mobile).
- Strong expertise in system design, microservices, and distributed architecture.
- Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
- Proficiency in databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or NoSQL solutions).
- Deep understanding of API development (RESTful, GraphQL).
- Experience with asynchronous processing (Celery, RabbitMQ, Kafka).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of authentication and security best practices (OAuth, JWT, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD workflows.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Background in event-driven architectures and message brokers.
- Knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
- Familiarity with frontend technologies for API collaboration (React, Vue).
