Zed is on a mission to build the world’s most advanced code editor, and we believe the best experiences come from designers who are also builders.
We’re looking for a designer who codes. Someone who is in a codebase every day and deeply feels the reality of developer tools firsthand. You’ll help us craft Zed, making it even more beautiful, powerful, simple to use, and a true piece of art.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end user experience, ensuring Zed feels intuitive, cohesive, and awesome to use for developers
- Design simple, effective, and clean interfaces that empower developers and scale
- Help shape the product roadmap and build a strong vision, guiding the team toward it
- Work directly in Zed’s Rust codebase while collaborating (lots of pair programming) with a small team of engineers to fully implement the features you designed
- Maintain and evolve Zed’s design system to make building Zed smooth and easy
Requirements
- You love designing in code as much as in Figma
- You’re detail-oriented and have great taste
- You enjoy operating on the bleeding edge, work well with ambiguity, and ship
- You are excited to learn Rust and get your hands dirty creating interfaces in Zed’s custom-built UI framework, GPUI
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in developer tools
- Familiarity with the Rust programming language
