Position Overview: Senior / Staff Full-Stack Engineer

As a core individual contributor and early engineering hire, you’ll help shape our engineering culture while designing, building, and shipping major parts of our underwriting platform—backend services, AI-driven agent workflows, and the cloud infrastructure that supports them. You’ll collaborate directly with the founder, head of engineering, product, and design, but you’ll own your work end-to-end, driving architectural calls and writing production code every day.

Key Responsibilities

1. Full-Stack Feature Delivery
   • Architect, develop, test, deploy, and monitor new product capabilities in short, iterative cycles.
   • Balance rapid experimentation to inform product discovery with long-term code health and maintainability.
2. Agentic AI Workflows
   • Translate complex lending workflows into multi-agent systems with LangGraph (and related tooling), handling orchestration, data extraction, validation, and decisioning logic.
   • Develop evaluation frameworks and monitoring systems to assess agent performance – both pre-release and once in production.
3. Backend Engineering
   • Build secure, scalable APIs and services in TypeScript/NestJS.
   • Model relational data in PostgreSQL and introduce vector/KV stores where low-latency retrieval is critical.
4. Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps
   • Provision and operate AWS resources using AWS CDK.
   • Maintain containerized services (ECS/Fargate, Lambda) and automated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
   • Own observability—logging, metrics, alerting—for everything you ship.
5. Engineering Breadth
   • While this is a backend-focused role, we are seeking engineers who will be comfortable diving into all areas of the stack as needed.
6. Technical Stewardship
   • Document and communicate architectural choices clearly.
   • Lead by example in code reviews and pair-programming sessions, up-leveling teammates without formal management duties.

Desired Skills & Experience

• 7 – 12 years of professional software development with substantial TypeScript experience. We value depth in backend systems with comfort contributing to other systems as needed.
• Proven track record designing and scaling API-centric systems in Node.js/NestJS.
• Hands-on AWS experience: ECS or Lambda, RDS/PostgreSQL, S3, CloudFront; confident with infrastructure-as-code via CDK.
• Experience working with AI / ML centered systems. Practical experience with or strong curiosity around agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain.
• Solid grasp of SQL data modeling and performance tuning; bonus for familiarity with vector databases (pgvector, Weaviate, Pinecone).
• Comfortable navigating ambiguous requirements, making pragmatic trade-offs, and delivering value quickly.
• Experience in early-stage startups or on small engineering teams where you’ve had broad technical impact is a strong plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; adept at async collaboration in a remote-first environment.
• Experience in regulated domains (finance, lending, healthcare, etc.) is a plus but not required.
