We’re inviting an experienced, generalist software engineer to join our core team at Mother, building our first computer, the Mother 1. We are looking for a self-starter who is a highly motivated and autonomous operator to join us in our Mountain View office.

What is Mother I?

Too much of today’s AI compute is concentrated in the hands of a few large companies. We believe in local and open-source AI—your AI should truly be your own.

Mother I is an AI supercomputer designed to run a wide range of open-source models locally. At its core is a software stack that makes it remarkably easy to run models and perform powerful tasks—directly on your own machine.

You will

• Build robust APIs with Python and Rust using the async/await pattern
• Write performant code with concurrency and parallelization requirements
• Solve complex challenges building software systems for all levels of the stack, from the operating system up to application layer APIs
• Develop scalable services that allow for on-prem AI software to run seamlessly
• Contribute to the development of consumer-facing applications that ship on Mother 1

You have

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer architecting, building, launching, and maintaining end-to-end services from whiteboard to production
• Proven experience leading and implementing backend systems where you have built, launched, or contributed to codebases that shipped to the internet or an embedded system
• Demonstrated ability turning business and product ideas into engineering solutions – you can go from zero to one
• Strong CS fundamentals and programming experience in Python
• A desire to experiment, test assumptions, and challenge hypotheses rapidly
• The ability to see complex problems as solvable challenges

• Interest and ability to pick up new technologies quickly
• Curiosity in evolving AI platforms, distributed systems, hardware, networking
