The Role

We’re looking for a Founding Engineer to build AI agents that handle complex tax and accounting workflows for high net worth families. You’ll create intelligent automation for sophisticated tax planning, multi-state compliance, and entity management – building systems that process financial documents, calculate tax obligations across jurisdictions, and coordinate administrative tasks with high accuracy.

As a founding engineer on a small, venture-backed team, you’ll make fundamental architectural decisions and establish our entire technical foundation from scratch. You’ll work directly with the Head of Product, CPAs, and Customer Experience team to understand complex workflows and translate them into automated systems, building meaningful technology that directly impacts how high net worth families manage their financial administration.

What You’ll Do

• Build entirely new multi-step agentic workflows from the ground up
• Create LLM evaluation systems and testing frameworks for high-stakes financial workflows
• Design agent orchestration with tool routing, retries, checkpoints, and human-in-the-loop steps
• Build document processing pipelines with OCR, normalization, and PII scrubbing
• Create LLM layer with cost controls, vendor routing, and guardrails
• Design database schemas and RAG pipelines with chunking and authorization
• Build production infrastructure with APIs, observability, and incident response
• Integrate with tax software, banking APIs, and document management systems
• Work with CPAs to understand complex workflows and automate them

What You Have

• 5+ years backend-focused experience at startups with strong Python/Go skills
• Production experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications solving real business problems
• Experience with agent orchestration tools (LangChain) and multi-step AI workflows
• Track record of high-output shipping – built what normally takes teams, solved complex problems independently
• Strong database design and API development skills
• Experience with document processing, OCR, and data pipeline architectures
• Ability to quickly grasp new domains and make smart technical decisions
• Strong collaboration skills and willingness to challenge assumptions while maintaining production quality

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience in fintech or regulated domains with security requirements
• Familiarity with AI orchestration tools (LangChain, similar platforms)
• Understanding of financial services, tax, or accounting workflows
