Senior Product Manager

Element develops a secure, sovereign and interoperable communications platform, devised primarily for government, defence and public sector organisations.

We are a for-profit company that is committed to open source. We build Element on top of an open protocol called Matrix, which was created by the same team that leads Element. Matrix is a not-for-profit open source project.

Element works closely with BWI on the BwMessenger for the German Armed Forces, NATO, the United Nations, Gematik on TI-Messenger for the German healthcare industry, and Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs and Dataport on the development of a sovereign workplace for public administration.

THE ROLE. 

We are seeking a talented Senior Product Manager with a strong focus on mobile app development to join our dynamic team. As a Senior Product Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development of our secure messaging apps, leveraging the power of the Matrix protocol. You will report directly to the Chief Product Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES.

• Develop a product vision for the team and align with senior stakeholders including C-level and the management team.
• Lead the product development lifecycle for our mobile messaging apps, from ideation to launch and beyond, owning and driving the roadmap.
• Define and prioritise product features based on market research, user and customer feedback, and business goals.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, and marketing to drive product strategy and execution.
• Conduct competitive analysis to identify market trends and opportunities for differentiation.
• Engage with customers to learn about user needs and communicate roadmap progress.
• Identify appropriate leading and lagging KPIs and foster insights driven product development.
• Work closely with UX/UI designers to create intuitive and user-friendly mobile experiences.
• Partner strongly with Engineering to ensure product delivery.
• Allocate resources, identify team dynamics and address any obstacles.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Matrix protocol and its implications for product development.
• Champion the importance of security and privacy throughout the product development process.

REQUIREMENTS.

While being passionate about user centricity and impact, you have a strong curiosity and appreciation for open source technology. You are looking forward to making a real impact to the world by creating products that address concrete and very topical pain points. You have the drive to help us grow as a company and to iterate on the development process. You thrive in a strong engineering culture.

• You have 5+ years of experience in product management, developing applications for millions of users.
• You have a proven track record of successfully launching and iterating on mobile apps, preferably in the messaging or communication space.
• You have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and influence key stakeholders.
• You have a passion for user-centric design and a relentless focus on delivering exceptional user experiences.
• You have experience working in an agile development environment.
• You have a bachelor’s degree in Design, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• You have an understanding of the Matrix protocol and its application to secure messaging is a plus.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in B2B subscription and / or SaaS product development.
• Experience working on open-source projects and/or contributing to the Matrix ecosystem.
• Familiarity with encryption protocols and security best practices.
• Experience in working with remote teams.
• Advanced degree in a relevant field.
• Fluent in German and English.
