At Eukarya, we develop and provide a WebGIS (Geographic Information System) platform called “Re:Earth” Re:Earth is a next-generation WebGIS platform that combines high scalability with an intuitive user interface. It is a browser-based tool that introduces the first “browser-operated plugin system” in the WebGIS field. Additionally, Re:Earth is available as open-source software (OSS). At Eukarya, we aim to offer value to society by building this platform collaboratively with contributors, and we have shared our achievements at global conferences like FOSS4G.
Since its launch in 2021, Re:Earth has expanded its demand, particularly among corporations and government agencies, securing nearly 200 million yen in orders within just six months. Since then, the demand and scale of projects involving Re:Earth have continued to grow rapidly.
Initially, the name Re:Earth referred solely to the browser-based visualization tool. However, as we advanced the Re:Earth project, we recognized the need for a more comprehensive web-based GIS ecosystem to facilitate open GIS and open data usage. For instance, alongside the existing Re:Earth (Visualizer), the addition of a high-performance CMS and tools for analyzing and converting large GIS datasets, all available as web-based OSS, could create a brighter future for GIS utilization. We have named this overarching ecosystem vision the “Re:Earth Ecosystem.”
Currently, the Re:Earth Ecosystem includes: Re:Earth Visualizer: for data visualization. Re:Earth CMS: for data collection, management, and distribution. Re:Earth Marketplace: for publishing, searching, and downloading plugins. However, these components were developed before the establishment of the Re:Earth Ecosystem concept, resulting in a lack of unified design direction.
For the Re:Earth Ecosystem to grow into an outstanding platform and continue to provide value and experiences to users and contributors, a strong concept, coherent design, and cohesive visual identity are essential.
To drive the future expansion of the Re:Earth Ecosystem and foster value creation through collaboration with users and contributors, we are actively seeking talented graphic designers with a passion for intellectual curiosity.

Eukarya is a startup in its 7th year, developing and managing the OSS product “Re:Earth.” Our design team has an average age of 30, and members are given substantial autonomy, allowing for personal growth. We operate across various departments—engineering, design, and sales—cooperating to manage projects. As a new designer, you will play a critical role not only in graphic design but also in cross-departmental communication. You will be involved in everything from planning to design (concept creation and user story design), making this an ideal environment for designers who enjoy collaborative, end-to-end creation. We encourage designers who wish to grow into other design areas like UI/UX or aspire to roles such as project manager or design manager to apply.
Eukarya consistently integrates the latest technology into its product development, including WebGL rendering and performance enhancements through WebAssembly. We are also planning projects that incorporate AI. While new technologies bring challenges, they also provide opportunities for continuous learning and improvement. Designers who are curious and passionate about exploring new technologies will find this environment both exciting and rewarding.
Our product, Re:Earth has been adopted as the foundational system for “Project PLATEAU,” a nationwide 3D city model project led by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. Besides Project PLATEAU, Eukarya is involved in solving various issues for local governments, including disaster prevention, local storytelling, and urban planning simulations.
